Serving: 6 people

Ingredients of French Onion Soup

  • 10 cups of yellow or red dried sliced onion
  • 4 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt and dried black pepper, as you wish
  • 2 cloves of minced garlic
  • 8 cups of chicken/beef broth
  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tbsp dried thyme
  • 8 slices of baguette bread
  • 1 cup of Swiss cheese
  • Dried parsley, dried dill, dried mint for garnish

Recipe:

  • First you should caramelize the onions. Select a proper-size pot. Preheat it on the medium-heat stove. Add 3 tbsp olive oil, after 5 minutes add the chopped onions and toss to coat it with the olive oil completely. Heat them for 20 minutes. Then, add the rest of olive oil and butter and leave it with the slow heat for more 15 minutes. The onions will turn light brown.
  • Sprinkle sugar to help the caramelization process and wait for 10 minutes, because the slow heat and sugar lead to the chemical reaction of caramelization.
  • Add garlic and cook for 1 more minutes.
  • Add the beef or chicken broth, bay, and thyme leaves. Boil them, cover the pot and lower the heat to the minimum heat of boiling, and leave the pot in this condition for 30 minutes.
  • Add salt and black pepper
  • Cook both sides of the bread slightly in the oven for 5 minutes.
  • Add Swiss cheese on the bread with desired Foodlord dried vegetables on cheese.  Put the bread pieces in the oven again to melt the cheese and turns the cheese to light brown.
  • Put the ready cheese bread pieces to the soup bowl.
  • Now, you can serve your French onion soup. Enjoy it
